Teams

In promoting international collaborative research, this project brings together researchers from Japan and partner institutions overseas, who work collaboratively across five research teams. To learn more about each team, please click the five bars located at the bottom of this page.

Early-career researchers are required to belong to two research teams simultaneously, enabling them to engage with multiple perspectives and conduct research grounded in a broad intellectual outlook. Through this structure, the project aims not only to cultivate interdisciplinary knowledge but also to foster scholars capable of situating emotionally charged issues within the frameworks of collective memory and normative systems in an international research environment.

As a major research outcome, an English-language book series on International Reconciliation Studies is scheduled to be published by Springer, a leading academic publisher in the English-speaking world. This series is expected to represent a distinguished body of international collaborative research conducted by top-level scholars from around the world.

In this way, the development of early-career researchers who will lead future scholarship and the advancement of international collaborative research function as two mutually reinforcing pillars, driving the project toward its overarching goals as an internationally leading research initiative. In practical terms, approximately 70 percent of the project budget is allocated to the development of early-career researchers, while research funding for tenured scholars is used in a highly restrained and strategic manner.

Participating early-career researchers are offered a variety of support programs, including long-term overseas placements (one to two years), financial support for presenting at international conferences (up to JPY 500,000), funding for inviting guest scholars to panels they organize at international conferences (up to JPY 500,000), and support for individual presentations at conferences organized by the International Reconciliation Studies Association.

Building on the knowledge developed within International Reconciliation Studies, this project seeks to connect International Relations, Global History, and the various related disciplines represented by each research team, with the goal of exploring pathways toward reconciliation among nations. Ultimately, the project aspires to serve as a hub for the international circulation of knowledge. By working in close collaboration with researchers at partner institutions overseas, the project aims to generate research outcomes with wide-reaching impact across the international community. We warmly welcome applications from early-career researchers who are motivated to join this collaborative endeavor.
