Kind of researcher I want to be

A researcher who conducts solid research toward a multifaceted and multilayered understanding of Japan and Japan-U.S.-Korea relations, using historical and qualitative research methods. A researcher who is able to widely share my research results with other researchers.

Introduction to your research theme

Regarding reconciliation studies, my research topic is clarifying the relationship between international cooperation and reconciliation between Japan and Korea, and even other countries.

Cooperation with other countries has been widely recognized as an important means of reducing mutual distrust. And regarding Japan’s cooperation with Korea, many Japanese politicians and people have set their sights on improving bilateral relations with Korea. But unresolved historical disputes and collective memories of historical past continue to undermine genuine bilateral reconciliation.

With this in mind, my study aims to examine how much emphasis has been placed on the improvement of Japan-Korea relations or reconciliation in the process of cooperation. I’m also interested in looking into a degree of interest in reconciling among the governments, elites, and citizens of the two countries. And, in this context, I would also like to compare the Japan-Korea relations with the success and limitations of cooperation between other European countries and their former colonies.
