【Event Information】Navigating Memory in Berlin: Between International Relations and Local Politics

Following the seminar Navigating Memory in Berlin: Between International Relations and Local Politics held on the 29th of last month by the Gender & Ethnicity Group, we are pleased to invite Dr. Babis, currently conducting research in Japan, to give another seminar—this time organized by the Global History Group.

Dr. Babis, who currently serves as Director of the Civic Education Division at the Center for Democratic Resilience at Helmut Schmidt University, holds a Ph.D. from the Center for Reconciliation Studies at the University of Jena in Germany. His areas of expertise include international security policy and conflict studies. We look forward to your active participation.

Speaker

Dr. Charalampos (Babis) Karpouchtsis, born in Thessaloniki (Greece), studied Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin and earned his M.A. in European Politics from the University of Bath (UK). In 2023, he completed his PhD at the Jena Center for Reconciliation Studies, Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Since 2022, he works at the Department of Political Science at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. He is the director of the Civic Education unit at the Democratic Resilience Center and teaches in the field of International Security Policy and Conflict Research. His dissertation, Old Wounds, New Foreign Policy? Germany and Greek Martyr Communities: Between Recognition and Reconciliation, was published by Springer. In 2024, he received the Fritz and Helga Exner Foundation Dissertation Award from the Southeast Europe Association Germany.
