Kind of researcher I want to be
A researcher who earnestly listens to the voices of everyone. A researcher who serves as a bridge between people with different perspectives.
Introduction to your research theme
I am researching the modern and contemporary history of East Asia, with a focus on Taiwan and Okinawa. I explore what Japanese colonial rule brought to the local societies of Taiwan and Okinawa, and how it was remembered. Specifically, I aim to investigate how being subject to external control has transformed the local communities in Taiwan and Okinawa, how it has shaped the modes of thought, values, and collective memory in those societies, and how it has either facilitated or hindered mutual understanding between regions in the present day. At present, I am addressing the above issues primarily through case studies of shrines or the human body.
